Twelfth Century Stone Coffin

DSC_0127

While sorting through this week-ends church photos, I came across this image of a 12th century stone coffin.

Three coffins were unearthed when St Mary’s Church, in Whaplode, Lincolnshire, when the floor was being re-laid.

They are believed to be fine examples of craftsmanship shown by the masons of nearby Barnack Quarry during the 12th & 13th century.
