This actually frightened the life out of me last Christmas. We were visiting Oxburgh Hall in Norfolk and we had just climb the stairs to the gallery and there is such wonderful wallpaper, that I wanted a photo of it. I took a photo of the hall, swung round to go through the door, when I felt something, swung again and took this photo. Just for a second I thought it was a ghost……..I did not hear her and she must have moved like lightening to get to the bottom of the stairs. I even said I thought she was a ghost, her reply….a lot of people think that…..I wonder why !!!
Below is the photo that I had taken seconds before…..it was odd thought because I didn’t see her again during the visit, oh and she didn’t come out of the side door as it was empty when we went pass……..no, I’m sure she was real, but she did give me a fright.
Oh Brilliant Lynn! Wonderful atmospheric photos of a place I have long had on my (tome -like ) list of places to visit! You and I talked a little before about our attraction to and love of moated houses and this one of course, being in my mind one of the brightest star in that galaxy! Perfect for All Hallow’s Eve. Thank you for this timely and “hauntingly” lovely post. Happy Halloween.
I thought you might like this one, but in truth it really was spooky, just for a second……glad you have enjoyed it though and a very Happy Halloween to you 🙂
P,S. Any more photos of Oxburgh to share?
Hundreds, but they are all Christmassy ones, so you will have to wait 🙂 not long to go though, I will start Christmas on the 1st of Dec 🙂
Eeeeeek, I would have been scared too!! Scary lady! I bet she has a fun time there though! 🙂 Great photos!
Oh I should think she has the time of her life…..had me going for a few seconds, glad you like the pics 🙂
Ok, re: other photos of Oxburgh~ I know Christmas must be magical there ~ I have some photos of the exterior taken on a winter afternoon with the sun low on the horizon, everything as if gilded with warm gold~ just too lovely for words~ incredibly romantic ~ I will be looking forward to any that you care to share as the Christmas season draws nearer. You know how much I loved your ‘advent calendar” of last Dec. That was just what it felt like to me ~ each day opening another door on a lovely surprise. Like you, love the wallpaper here~ I think you and I are drawn to some really similar things Lynn ~ recalling our Christmas trees and ornaments from last yr. ect~ I have no doubt the interior of your home is both lovely and full of interesting things (and stories to go along with them) My taste is very eclectic ~ I suspect yours may also be. Back to the photo here though~ I am sure I would have jumped a mile if I had been in the same situation there~ remind me to tell you one day about an odd experience I had with my mother when we lived in England ~ perhaps if we ever have a chance to meet up I can share it with you. I have been entertaining myself the last couple of days with ghostly tales from the all round the UK~ What about you? reading anything seasonal or just interesting?
Awesome shot! It d o e s look haunted. 😉
Thank you, I’m sure there must be a few ghosts there…… somewhere 🙂
It is magnificent wallpaper – never saw anything like it. Next time that woman makes an appearance tell her she adds to the ambiance of the building.
Yes the wallpaper is wonderful and the lady certainly added to the visit 🙂
