Please met Toffee, he is a beautiful 15 weeks old Pomeranian puppy and is our new rescue dog.  He is a rescue dog in the sense that his human mum could not look after him anymore, she really had no idea what it meant to look after a breed like this.  So she did what could and found him a new home with us. He now has a sister and two brothers, a very large garden and will come to work everyday with all of us.  He is a beautiful little dog, but he, even at 15 weeks had got the better of his old owner, even to the point of attacking her, which she really didn’t think was wrong !!  We had a two hour journey back home and to start with, I did wonder if we had done the right thing, he tried to attack me three times and cried like a banshee.  What he was used to doing, was attacking if he wanted something and if the owner didn’t want him to, he would bite.  Well after using the word ‘no’ and some short taps on the nose, he learnt remarkably quickly to stop, even the crying stopped, he curled on my lap and fell asleep.  He had never been told no before and so had become top dog at such an early age.

We stopped a few times on the way home, even visited a garden centre, he was as good as gold, lots of people stoked him and he was perfect.  Meeting the other dogs was not as bad as I thought, he was soon running about the garden with them, there were a few snarls and barking, but that always happens, while they sort themselves out.  He has not growled or bitten since this morning and we have had kisses from him and he is now fast asleep in his box.  Tomorrow he will go to work for the first time…..mmm that will be interesting 🙂  I am hoping we have a lovely delightful little dog in the making, its a good start 🙂

I took the photo this afternoon and I think I can see a smile there 🙂

  1. Nice to meet Toffee! I do hope that he keeps improving on his behavior. We have a shih tzu that we have to remind her who is boss around here or she too will show bad manners, other wise she’s a very sweet dog.

    1. Thanks Deb, he slept all night and never made a noise and was so pleased to see us this morning and we took him out a 5.45 and he did his business, which is good as he has only lived in a flat and used a puppy mat, so fingers crossed. We shall just to make sure his manners get better, as he has just never been shown how to be good and he is worth the effort 🙂

  2. Toffee is adorable, and looks like a little fox cub! 🙂
I am confident you will soon sort him out. As you say, he needs to be told how to behave; what is acceptable, or not. I think he is naturally dominant, which caused the early problems with a weak owner, but in the long run, they are easier dogs to have. Good luck at work today. 🙂

    1. Thank you, he was good at work and everyone loved him, a little dog sorting out, but that happens anyway…. but we had no human bitting of the nasty kind, so he learns pretty quickly. Nancy had taken to him and wants mother him, she is very good with him 🙂

      1. Ha ha she is very good at putting him in his place, she actually got him to lay down next to her, by just lying and not moving, so he did too, for 5 mins, its a start 🙂

      2. Wow, that is so good! Toffee really has come to the right home. He will be much happier, and turn into a super little dog.
I know it will be hard work on your part, but worth it. 🙂

  3. How lovely, Lynne! It sounds as if he needed a family of other furry friends, as well as knowing who was top dog! Well done for giving him a loving home.

    1. Thank you Jo, he is beginning to settle in a little more with the other dogs, he is as good as gold with us humans now 🙂 thank goodness 🙂

  4. Pomeranians are very intelligent dogs and generally make excellent pets. I’m sure Toffee will figure out how to fit in rather quickly. 🙂

    1. Oh you are so right Pat, he is very intelligent and he learns so quickly, even in the short time we have had him. I think he will grown into a wonderful little dog 🙂 he just needed a little help to get started 🙂

    1. He is getting sweeter all the time, only had him two days and already he is not nearly as aggressive when we picked him. But he does have the most adorable eyes, that you can forgive him for anything, but only when he is good 🙂
