Waiting – Fish & Chips

Scroll down to content

We had come back late from the Isle of Mull, and driving through Oban, the smell of fish and chips was just too much, so we just had to have some.  Also….. how could we not, with a testimonial like that from Rick Stein, hope thats the chef and not the fishmonger 🙂

  1. Rapeseed oil for frying … Hmmm wonder how that would compare to peanut oil. I know that what oil you fry your fish in makes a difference in taste! Hope the sign was as good as its word.

      1. Did a little research on rapeseed oil,it is more like the canola oil for they are both in the mustard family. It was interesting to learn that rapeseed oil is a very important British restaurant oil.

      2. Oh yes, our fields are full of yellow flowers in the late spring and in fact it can make your eyes sting and the smell of the rapeseed is really powerful. We seem to be growing more and more of it but I didn’t know that about it being a restaurant oil, so that must be the reason why they are growing more and more, thank you for looking.
