A Jewelled St George

DSC_0299

A very jewelled incrusted St George, and in the main window, he is with St Elizabeth.  The wonderful stained glass window is in Rochester Cathedral in Kent.  Another one for my ‘Series of  St George’.

    1. I will have to do some research on Elizabeth as I know nothing about her, but I agree that both robe and armour look alike and I think you could be right about offering protection…..I think we could do with some of that 🙂

      1. Elizabeth was the mother of John the Baptist in the New Testament, who had been too old to have a chilld. She recognised the unborn Christ in Mary’s womb.

  1. Another beautiful window, Lyn. The Annunciation depicted on his breast plate is a wonderful touch. I need to get to the Rochester Cathedral site and see if there is more information auch as maker, designer, etc. As always, it is a joy traveling to these beautiful English/UK churches with you. I just posted some images of early stained glass in the Metropolitan Museum in NY. Hope you can take a peek. I think you will enjoy it.
