Wisbech Rose Fair 2017, Church & Parade

Scroll down to content

We try to go to the Wisbech Rose Fair every year, I have posted once about the flower festival in the church, but never the floats, so for 2017, there are photos of both church and parade of floats.

A little history…… The Rose Fair was started in 1963 when local rose growers sold rose buds in the church gardens to raise funds for the restoration of St Peter & St Pauls Church, which dates back to Normans times. Rose growing is still a specialty of the area and the flower festival continues to raise money to maintain the fabric of the church.  The Rose Fair has blossomed into a magnificent event that now takes over the town each year.  We will start with a visit to the church, which was quite busy when we were there, in fact the whole of Wisbech was busy, not bad for a small market town, and the weather help by being good to us. The Flower Festival Theme for 2017 was “The Artist’s Palette”.

After visiting the church we found a good spot to watch the floats come by.  They were all very good and the theme was ‘For The Love Of Books”  lots of Harry Potter, Alice In Wonderland, but ‘Where’s Wally’ float scooped first prize.

Nancy and Toffee, really enjoyed themselves 🙂
