The Top of Interlaken ‘Harder Kulm’ from our holiday in Switzerland, September 2018. We had spent most of the day on the Jungfrau, which I have posted about, but we did find time to take another train ride.
A little information…….For more than 100 years, the funicular has been negotiating the 735 meters of altitude to the Harder Kulm, located at 1322 meters. The journey starts not far from Interlaken Ost station, leads through a charming forest and passes the wildlife park. A five-minute walk takes visitors from the mountain station to the lovely restaurant with turrets and a red tile roof. Next to the restaurant, guests may visit the “Two-Lakes-Bridge” and an airy viewing platform with a glass area in its floor. From there, truly deep sights can be seen and the magnificent view to Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau as well as Lakes Brienz and Thun can be savoured.
I wondered about the name………The Harderkulm (also referred to as Harder Kulm, since the top station of the funicular is called that way) is a viewpoint at 1,321 metres (4,334 ft) in the Berner Oberland region of Switzerland, overlooking the towns of Interlaken and Unterseen.
We had a lovely meal in the castle like restaurant, we sat outside and enjoyed the last of the sunshine, it was a lovely end to a perfect day. I forgot to take photos of the food, I forget and really only remember half way through the meal, I think it’s because I have yet to master the art of food photography, and no one wants to see half eaten plates of food 🙂
Next post, a visit to castle and lunch next to a lake.
Oooh, this brings back memories…..
Good 🙂 then you now how beautiful it is.
Absolutely!
🙂
Magnificent views! Did you go on the bridge? I got a belly flop just thinking about it,go thing I’m sitting or my knees might have buckled!😄
Thank you, they were stunning. I went on the bridge and lent over to take the photos, It doesn’t worry me, but it does Steve, he wouldn’t even go near it…..he just really hates getting close to the edge of anything high 🙂
You did what?! I think I will just join Steve on the bench and cover my eyes so I don’t see you hanging over the side.🙈
Oh it wasn’t as high as the Jungfrau, and I just have to take my photos regardless of risk to life or limb 🙂 🙂
These pictures are so nice – I have been to Switzerland and also Austria, but have no pictures, only memories. We have no big mountains near us in Pennsylvania. Just medium ones which are pretty, but nothing spectacular like these, and almost never snow covered. Sounds like you had a great visit and meal!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed them. I love your mountains in Pennsylvania, so green and beautiful, we have been a few times, my sister in law lives up in the mountains, near Morris 🙂
Yes, we all have nice things in the places where we live!
🙂
Been here so many times. Stunning often stayed across Lake Thun at beautiful Spiez. Never brave enough to take the quick way down from the top.
Ah Lake Thun, see new post. I too am not brave enough to take the short cut 🙂 Lynne
Shocking stunning photos! I remember the name Interlaken, because for a long time ago there was held F1 Grand Prix. Do You know if F1 were hold near here?
Happy new week,
Matti
Thank you Matti, glad you like the photos. Sorry but I have no idea about the F1, maybe try googling the question. Enjoy the rest of the week 🙂 Lynne
Spectacular views – and Heights! You are braver than me – especially with that one looking down over the balcony. Eeeep!
Thank you, it wasn’t too bad, best to look across rather than down 🙂
Absolutely stunning views! Amazing day to bring out the best of Interlaken. Miss it…🙂
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the post 🙂 Lynne
